Coffee is one of the most popular beverages. However, as with any beverage, the risk of spilling is always present, and to make matters worse, the possibility of causing permanent damage to clothes or surfaces such as carpet is perhaps more of an issue with coffee.
These methods will work well if and when you spill your coffee on anything: your carpet, clothes, table… Store-bought cleaners are not always effective, and our recommendations are safer to use around the house, especially if you have children or pets.
Remember the first rule of cleaning up a coffee stain: get to stains as soon as possible to minimize damage. If you ignore the stain for too long, it may become noxious and haunt you at every waking moment. Take a look at these simple ways to remove coffee stains around the house.
Blot with a Wet Cloth
The first step in removing an offensive coffee stain is to blot it gently with water. Because coffee is a water-based liquid, it would effectively dilute the stain. Wet two or three pieces of biodegradable toilet paper and blot it several times to try to persuade the coffee stain to leave town.
If you are concerned that this method will not work, try rubbing a little hand soap into the stain as well. Don’t despair if your carpet is snow white and your favorite coffee is a dark one.
Use Club Soda
Club soda can be used to remove coffee stains. If you happen to spill some of this (typically a morning to afternoon beverage) on your clothes while out and about, blot it with a little club soda. It will almost immediately remove the stain. This method can also be used on your carpet or clothing at home.
Use some Beer
Never fear if you spill coffee on your carpet! There are several ways to clean your carpet, like this one: simply pour a small amount of beer onto the stain and gently rub it into the carpet. The stain should simply vanish!
(You can get an already opened beer and a ready excuse to drink it).
The Miracle Product: Vinegar
This method is especially useful for removing spills from clothing or tablecloths. Mix vinegar with any water-soluble stain to instantly lighten or remove the spot. Remove the offending spot with a paper towel dipped in undiluted vinegar, then wash it. The stain should disappear quickly.
If the stain is quite large, don’t be afraid to soak the item of clothing overnight in a solution of 3 parts vinegar to 1 part water.
In many cases, these natural cleaning solutions are already in your home and easily accessible. These methods are not completely foolproof – as previously stated, the quickest way to remove the coffee stain is to get to it right away. The force is with you!
